Jem Cresswell is a visual artist based in Sydney, Australia.
Jem Cresswell was born (1984) and raised in South Australia. His affinity for the sea was cemented by his early days spent exploring the rugged desolate coastlines of Yorke and Eyre Peninsula, surfing, diving and camping with friends. This sense of escape and freedom grew his love of the ocean.
Self taught, Jem has always had a camera in hand, but everything changed when he bought his first underwater film camera at 17 years old. “I was immediately addicted and intrigued with the new world it opened up. 15 years on nothing has changed. I aim to transport the viewer to a familiar yet extraordinary world. I want them to feel like they are immersed in the elements, not just observing from afar,” he says. His fascination with the ocean is certainly evident through his images, which throw us headfirst into aquatic bliss. "There is still so much to learn and be discovered below the surface" he says, "This fuels my desire to see, create and share the experience".
